A Storm-Damaged Tree Gets a New Purpose

A damaged oak tree in Tulsa’s Veterans Park is being transformed into a meaningful work of patriotic art by Chainsaw Artistry. Instead of being cut up for firewood, the tree is being carefully carved into a tribute honoring American veterans.

The oak was badly affected by an ice storm and had become hollow, making it unsuitable for many ordinary uses. Chainsaw Artistry saw an opportunity to give the tree a new purpose by creating a sculpture specifically suited to the park’s veteran-focused surroundings.

The planned design incorporates several patriotic symbols, including an American eagle, a flag and a soldier. Together, these elements are intended to create a striking display that recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. veterans.

From Firewood to Public Artwork

Chainsaw Artistry uses chainsaws along with specialized carving equipment to shape the large tree. The project demonstrates how a damaged tree can be transformed into something valuable and visually meaningful rather than simply being discarded.

Work on the sculpture is expected to continue into early October, allowing people visiting the park to watch the transformation take place. When finished, the artwork will add another distinctive feature to Veterans Park near 21st Street and Boulder Avenue.

The project also highlights the creative possibilities of chainsaw carving, turning an otherwise unusable tree into a lasting piece of public art that visitors can enjoy and appreciate.
